Drive in pallet racking system is based on the storage by accumulation principle. This enables the highest use of available space. You should consider both the floor space and the height of the room. At many times, the drive in racking is misjudged with the drive thru racking, although there are technical differences between the two. ‘Drive in systems’ generally have walls, or otherwise, they are closed at the opposite ends.

Advantages of drive in pallet racking

  • You can maximum profitability of the available space (up to 85%).
  • You can remove the aisles between the ranking.
  • You can have a precise control of entries and exits.
  • It will enable you to allow as many SKU as loading lanes.

Primarily, two management systems are available:

  • The drive-in system, with only one access aisle, and
  • The drive-through system, with access to the load from both sides of the rack.

The system is frequently used in cold stores (refrigeration and freezing) which require maximum use of space for the storage of products in a controlled temperature. With the drive in pallet racking system you can actually opt for efficient storage concentration. In this case, pallets are stored back-to-back but they do not have aisles for any form of dense storage. It is an excellent solution for products that are not sensitive to time and date. With this drive-in system, fast moving pallets can be rotated frequently.

Drive in rack system: This type of installation consists of a set of racking units that form the inner loading isle, with supports rails for the pallet. The forklift trucks can enter these inner aisles. The load is carried at a higher level than the level they will be left or stored at.

Drive through: Unlike drive in racking, here you manage loads with access load points. You have access to the goods to take the first in first out way.

Look for the sturdiness of the products and ensure the safety as well:

  • The loading aisle must have support rails.
  • Load rails are constructed or made of durable structural angle steel.
  • Load rails feature a flared entry design. It will help you allow or get easier bay access.
  • Welded rail stops prevent loads from being pushed off and improve safety.
  • Materials used for storing is one of the important factor for safety of the products.

The weight of the products should be calculated when you look at the area where you are storing it at.

As for stability, lengthwise stability, crosswise stability you must ensure for both single or double access storing.
